Will of Beverly Vawter

Know all men by these presents that I Beverly Vawter of the
County of Jefferson and State of Indiana considering the uncertainty
of this life and being of sound mind and memory do make declare
and publish this my last will and testament.
1st I will to my son Pascal Vawter and his assigns $300 three
hundred dollars he having received $700 seven hundred dollars
in land and other property
2nd I will to Elizabeth V Blair my grand daughter heir my daughter
Lucinda $800 eight hundred dollars her mother having received
$200.00
3rd I will to my son Philemon Vawter $750.00 seven hundred
and fifty dollars he having received $250.00 two hundred and
fifty dollars. I hold a note against him for $500.00 five hundred
dollars drawing eight percent interest.
4th I will to my son James C Vawter $730 seven hundred and
thirty dollars he having received $270.00 two hundred & seventy
dollars in money and property.
5th I will to my son Richard B Vawter $810.00 eight hundred
and ten dollars he having received $190.00 one hundred and
ninety dollars I hold a note against him for $450.00 four
hundred and fifty dollars drawing eight per cent interest I
allso have an account against him of $118.00 one hundred
and eighteen dollars.
6th I will to my grand son Ira Vawter son of Cyrus P
Vawter $500.00 five hundred dollars to be placed at compound
interest until he becomes of age at which time he is to receive
principal and interest
7th I will to Sam H Vawter $830.00 eight hundred and thirty
dollars he having received $170 one hundred seventy dollars
Dr by note $400 four hundred dollars at eight per cent
per anum
8th I will to my son John M vawter $25.00 twenty five dollars
he having received $975.00 nine hundred and seventy five
dollars in land and other property
9th I do nominate and appoint my sons Richard B
Vawter and Philemon Vawter my executors of this my
last will and testament.
In testimony whereof I have to this my last will and
testament subscribed my name and affixed my seal
this 28th day of January in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and seventy.

one of the subscribing witnesses to the last will and testament
of Beverly Vawter late of said county deceased who being duly
sworn on his oath saith he saw the said Beverly Vawter sign and
seal the foregoing paper as his will and that he with Elizabeth
V Blair subscribed the same as witnesses in the presence of each
other and in the presence and at the request of said Beverly Vawter
the deponent further saith said Beverly Vawter was at the time
of making and executing said paper as his will of full age to devise
his property and of sound mind and memory and not under coercion
and restraint and that he did publish and declare the same to be
his will and further saith not.

James Maxwell Crawford

James Maxwell Crawford1 was born on 3 Mar 1790 in Garrard, Kentucky, United States.14 He was the child of .5

     He signed a petition asking for a division of roads on 14 Oct 1811 in Jefferson, Indiana Territory, United States.6

     James purchased land being of the NE qr of section 29 in township no 4 north of range no ten east on 7 Apr 1826 in Jefferson, Indiana, United States.7 He lived in Jefferson, Indiana, United States on 1 Jul 1830.8

     He sold land being 136 acres to the county for the purpose of creating an asylum for the poor on 25 Feb 1833 in Jefferson, Indiana, United States.9

     James  purchased land being O T Madison Lot 51 for $1800 from Chas W. Basnett on 30 Oct 1846 in Jefferson, Indiana, United States.10

     He lived as a 60 year old male born in Kentucky who was listed as James M Crawford in Clay Township, Decatur, Indiana, United States on 11 Sep 1850.11

     He died on 13 Oct 1856 at the age of 66.4  James was an Elder and Lay Preacher for the Indiana Conference of the Methodist Church in Indiana, United States.4

James Maxwell Crawford and Lucy Vawter were married in 1812.1,5Lucy Vawter, daughter of Philemon Vawter and Anna Vawter, was born in 1792 in Shelby, Kentucky, United States.12

     She died in 1832 at the age of 40 in Bartholomew, Indiana, United States.12 She was also known as Lucy Crawford. James Maxwell Crawford and Lucy Vawter had the following children:

     He lived in North Madison, Jefferson, Indiana, United States on 21 Aug 1850.17 He started for Oregon on 28 Mar 1851 .3,1819 Philemon lived in Oregon, United States on 20 Sep 1851.16,18,20

     He filed took up a Donation Land Claim in section 22 about 3 miles East in Brownsville, Linn, Oregon, United States about 1852.3 He filed land entry papers about 1855 in Linn, Oregon, United States.16 About 1859 Philemon owned a flour mill in Shedd.3

     He purchased 10 acres of land from Timothy Riggs in 1860 in Crawfordsville, Linn, Oregon, United States.3 He lived in Linn, Oregon, United States on 18 Jun 1860.21

     In 1870 Philemon was appointed postmaster in Crawfordsville, Linn, Oregon, United States.22 He lived in Linn, Oregon, United States on 20 Sep 1870.23 He lived in Waitsburg, Washington Territory in 1871.3

     Philemon lived as a 66 year old mill right born in Indiana who was listed as P. V. Crawford in Crawfordsville, Linn, Oregon, United States on 5 Jun 1880.24

     He died on 2 Feb 1901 at the age of 86 in Eugene, Lane, Oregon, United States.3,1416,25 He was buried in Crawfordsville, Linn, Oregon, United States.3,14
Philemon Vawter Crawford and Letitia Smith3 were married on 19 Dec 1833 in Jefferson, Indiana, United States.14,16,18,2630Letitia Smith was born on 28 Aug 1817.16

     She lived in North Madison, Jefferson, Indiana, United States on 21 Aug 1850.17 She lived in Linn, Oregon, United States on 18 Jun 1860.21 Letitia lived in Linn, Oregon, United States on 7 Sep 1870.23 She lived as a 63 year old female born in Indiana who was listed as L. S. Crawford in Crawfordsville, Linn, Oregon, United States on 16 Jun 1880.24

     She lived in Portland, Multnomah, Oregon, United States on 27 Jun 1860.34 Rachel lived as a 58 year old female born in Indiana who was listed as Rachel Smith in Dairy Creek, Washington County, Oregon on 11 Jun 1880.35

     She died on 22 May 1891 at the age of 69 in Washington, Oregon, United States.32 She was buried at Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Washington, Oregon, United States.32

This Indenture made the 27 day of April in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and forty six between Anderson C Guthrie
and Ann Guthrie wife of said Anderson of the first part and Patsy
Miner of the second part witnesseth that the said parties of

the first part for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred
and twenty dollars lawful money of the Untied States to them in
hand well and truly paid by the said party of the second part the
receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained sold
conveyed and confirmed and by these presents do grant bargain
sell convey and confirm unto the said party of the second part
her heirs and assigns forever the following piece or parcel of
ground situate lying and being in the county of Ripley and state
of Indiana and known and designated as follows to wit being the
North East quarter of the Northwest quarter of section no thirty
four (34) in township no six (6) north of Range No Ten (10)
East containing forty acres more or less also five acres off of
the west end of the north east half of the north east quarter
of said section no thirty four (34) in the township and range
aforesaid and adjoining the tract or parcel of grand first above
mentioned in the said county of Ripley and all the estate right
title interest claim and demand of them the said parties of the first
part of in and to the said premises and every part thereof together
will all and singular the privileges and appurtenances to the same be
longing or in any wise appertaining and the rents issues and profits
thereof to have and to hold the premises hereby bargained and sold or
meant or intended so to be with the appurtenances to the only proper
use and behoof of the said party of the second part her heirs and
assigns forever. And the said Anderson C Guthrie for himself his heirs
executors and administrators doth covenant promise and agree that
with the said party of the second part her heirs executors admin
istrators and assigns that he is the true and lawful owner of the
premises hereby granted and hath good rightfull power and lawful
authority to sell and convey the same in manner and force aforesaid
and further that he the said Anderson C Guthrie his heirs executors

Anderson, Rebecca, d/o John Anderson, native of NY and Anne Irvine, was born at Augusta Parish, VA , m. 1st R. John Maxwell, 2nd James Crawford, located in Jeff. Co. IN prior to 1830

Crawford, Mary (Polly) d/o James and Rebecca Anderson Crawford, b. in Garrard Co. KY May 28, 1786, m. William Brown Guthrie, Apr. 6, 1809; came to Jeff. Co. soon after marriage; had 11 children. She d. July 18, 1834 and she and her husband are buried at Hanover. Her husband was called to fight Indians in 1812 and she walked 12 miles carrying her baby, Anderson Crawford Guthrie, who was born Apr. 22, 1811 and her companion, a boy age 12, carried an older child, James Guthrie. They walked to the block house near the Francisco farm. Her ancestors served in the Rev. War.

This Indenture made this twenty first day of June in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty two
between William B Guthrie & Polly his wife of the coun
ty of Jefferson & State of Indiana of the first part and Jesse
Gray of the same of the second part witnesseth that
the said William B Guthrie & Polly his wife for and in
consideration of the sum of sixteen hundred dollars lawful
money of the United States to them in hand well and truly
paid by the said Jesse Gray the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged have granted bargained sold aliened released
conveyed and confirmed and by these presents do grant
bargain sell alien release convey and confirm unto the
said Jesse Gray his heirs and assigns forever all that certain

     He lived as a 78 year old male born in South Carolina who was listed as Robert Creath in Shelby Township, Ripley County, Indiana on 11 Sep 1850.21

     Robert died in 1851 in Ripley, Indiana, United States.22
